I’m BACK
I dropped off the face of the earth, as far as this site goes, after the loss of my beloved Service Dog, Gabe, in August of 2019. It was devastating, and if a dog can possibly die at the wrong time – HE DID!
We got the news that our youngest daughter had cancer. We dropped everything, and I mean everthing, and went to Florida to be with her.
Within the span of just 10 days:
- My husband flew to Florida to interview for a new job.
- We put our house up for sale.
- We rehomed my flock of backyard chickens.
- We rented a home in Florida.
- Arrangements were made (thank you so much to another daughther and son-in-law) to flip our home for the sale, and for a moving company to come.
- Gabe’s cancer spread to his spleen, and we had to have him put to sleep.
- Movers arrived and packed up our home.
- We hit the road.
- We arrived in Florida and moved into our temporary rental home (which ended up being not so temporary because we lived there for 4 years).
I was in a state of disbelief for quite some time, and I felt so lost without my precious boy. I will say that previous surgery – a big thank you to Dr. Sullivan DVM and Dr. Sharyl Rushing DVM for their superb care – gave me an additional two years with Gabriel.
I’m Back
We recently moved back to Louisiana, with our youngest daughter in tow. We actually now live off the very same hwy that we did before – but just a few miles in a different direction. As much as I miss my family (7 of our kids and 14 of our grandkids lived within about 45 miles of our rental), and dear friends back in Florida, we sort of felt like we were back home when we got here. My husband moved back about 6 weeks ahead of me, then I came, and after we closed on the house and the majority of our belongings arrived, our daughter came.
The last 4 years have been extrememly difficult, but we are truly blessed…we have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, enough food to eat, and WONDERFUL FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
I hope you’ll come back and visit the site often, as I get back into the groove.
Bye for now, but see you soon.
